So, I have had another amazing year. Some things change, and some things stay the same.
I am still in a ‘burb of Seattle. I still live at the same apartment complex, although I upgraded to a two bedroom. I still play a lot of video games (I am addicted to Forza 2 at the moment).
My employment sittuation on the other hand, has changed quite a bit.
Read on for the skinny on the whole thing.
Microsoft? Been there, done that.
Work for a video game company? Oh yeah. It was awesome. Great group of people to work for. Horrible politics, but great people.
Volt? Yeah. Might be working with them in the future, but not if I can help it.
I did my time as a contractor. While its awesome going from 30k/year in the Treasure Valley to over 70k/year in the Seattle area in one year, being a contractor as a whole sucks ass.
I understand the need companies have for contract workers. Sometime it makes sense. It seems like both interested parties should be supportive of a contract style relationship. I understand why companies hire contractors. I just want to be a little more invested in the next company I work for.
I enjoy a few things that contracting afforded me. It raised my income significantly in a short period of time and it let me work in interesting and new environments. I just want something more perminent, and to feel like I belong to a lasting team. A team that I can witness grow, change and evolve over time, with myself included.
Is that to much to ask?
