To keep a record of what is going on with the house we are trying to buy, I will update with the latest below the break.
Last time I updated about this whole thing, everything was going smoothly. The bank OK’d my ability to pay for it; the private inspector brought up some very interesting details we should look into soon; the VA liked the price we were getting for it. Last thing on our plate. Does the VA like me.
As it turns out, not so much really. In order to qualify for the VA to underwrite the house, I have to have been in the active reserves for at least 6 years, and been honorably discharged. Woot! I have that!
Kinda.
The military form that is usually used to prove the above is called a DD-214. It contains a summery of the known service record of a armed service person. Mine was re-written when I changed duty stations in 1999 from the 965th med btn in Texas, to the 321st eng btn in Idaho. So what you ask? That means that I still have 6 years since my honorable discharge was in 2005 right? Nope. Short by 3 months. Sweet.
So now I need to prove I was enlisted in 1997 and in active duty army reserves. I have a copy of my original orders to attend basic training, and my initial medical training. I hope that is enough. So another headache.
And a week before we are supposed to close. I brought this up to our banker at Wells Fargo months ago, but he assured me that there was nothing to worry about. I hope he is right, and we can get this sorted before the big day. He seems confident. He has been working exceptionally hard with us to get us into this house, so I am hoping he can pull off this last bit, literally at the 11th hour.
I hope you can find time to cross your fingers for us, because ours have been crossed for 6 months and are getting a bit exhausted.
